Sydney Extinguishers knows the importance of training & knowledge in the Fire Industry in Sydney. I was one of the lucky ones and had the option of training at TAFE NSW in 2005 and work for a firm that was very focused on in house training and certification. I was the enrolled in the last year to go through the course FIRE TECHNOLOGY CERT IV. I obtained my Cert IV in fire technology and over 25+ in house certificates. Cert IV Fire Technology Certificate on request. Please email me if you are after a copy.

In the course we touch on such things like;

  • Fire Properties
  • Fire Insurance
  • Fire Characteristics
  • Testing & Maintenance
  • What is Fire
  • Fire Suppression Systems
  • Fire Pumpsets
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Annual Fire Safety Statements

Nowadays the Fire Protection Association (FPAA) of Australia are the registered training organisation (RTO) that is committed to improving the competence of fire protection technicians in Sydney.  They offer two nationally recognised qualifications, and a range of around 40 individual units of competency for technicians to select from. Their qualifications and units meet the needs of many of the Queensland Building & Construction Commission (QBCC) Fire Occupational Licences, and the Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) and Synthetic Greenhouse Gases (SGG) Extinguishing Agents Handling Licences. QLD still offer the Cert II & Cert IV in Fire Technology. This course can be done by correspondence and practical over 1 week in person.

The Fire Protection Maintenance product range is delivered as self-study units, where each student enrols and receives materials to work through in their own time and pace. Once self study has taken place students can then enrol in one of the regular Assessment Sessions in order to be assessed.

Assessment Sessions are regularly held in most capital cities and some major towns around Australia, and those who are interested can select to either enrol directly into the next available session or join a waiting list.

FPA Australia also administers the Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme (FPAS) which recognises qualified and competent fire protection technicians working in the test and inspect fields. Students who achieve competence in units from the new CPP20511 and CPP30811 will be well on the way to gaining accreditation in this Scheme.

Hopefully one day they bring back a TAFE course to suit NSW as it was a great course. Until then be very careful who you employee to do your fire safety work in Sydney and make sure they are experienced or a qualified professional like Sydney Extinguishers.Sydney Extinguishers loves Fire Safety Training!
